Oat: the effect of seed treatment with FLOBOND SC101 on yield

Geographical area
Crop
Irrigation system

In 2022 at Križevci, NW Croatia an experiment was set on spring oat   cv. William seed treatment and sown  size of 40 m2 in four replications. For presowing seed treatment two variants were examined:

  1. T1 -Control
  2. T2-Flobond SC101 (1l/ha)

METHODOLOGY

  • 1 control group and 1 treated group (1l/ha)
  • Herbicide used: May 5, Starane250 1 l/ha + insecticide Cythrin max 50 ml/ha + Slavol 7 l/ha

  • May 22, 2023: insecticide Cythrin max 50 ml/ha + fungicide Delaro forte 1,2 l/ha + Slavol 7 l/ha

  • June 2, 2023: Cythrin max 50 ml/ha + Delaro forte 1,3 l/ha + Slavol 7 l/ha

The soil is leased pseudogley (stagnosol) acidic (pH in 1MKCl = 5.27) and does not need calcification (Y1=2,48). The humus content is low (1,77 %) but rich in phosphorus (26.29 mg/100 g of soil) and potassiu (23,9 mg/100 g of soil).

During the vegetation, plant biomass, development and health were measured on all four variants with a manual green seeker.NDVI measurements were done three times in the growing season (Table 3).

Various data and observation about the experiment

Plant density

A significant difference in plant density was  observed  between the control variant and T2 variant . The control was significantly lower than T2 variant.

Grain yield

Significantly different grain yields were observed between the control variant T1 and T2 variants. The control was significantly lower than T2 variant.

Panicle  length

A significant difference in plant density were   observed   between the control variant and T2 variant. The control was significantly lower than T2 variant.

Number of kernels per panicle

A significant difference in plant density was observed between the control T1 variant and T2 variant. The control was significantly lower than T2 variant.

Volume weight

There were significant differences between the variant T1 and variant T2 . The control was significantly lower than T2 variant.

Thousand kernels weight

There were significant differences between the variant T1 and variants T2. The control was significantly lower than T2 variant.

Conclusion

After the experimental sowing, the climatic conditions were unfavorable. The soil was moist, and the germination was uneven. The temperature at the time of the flowering and fertilization of oats was lower than 30 °C, which resulted in better fertilization and higher yield. During the growing season, because of the high humidity and high temperatures, a strong attack of diseases and pests occured. Flobond SC101 reduced the stress in the vegetation and significantly increased the yield.Compared to the control variant T1, the T2 variant had a higher yield of 18.65%.
